In history,  Tingyuen Battleship was born in the late 19th century during the period of self-strengthening through Westernization in China. It was built by the Qing government at the German Vulcan Shipyard at a cost of 1.5 million taels of silver. It was the most powerful warship in the world's navy at the time and was known as the largest ship in Asia.  Tingyuen Battleship had a full load displacement of 7,670 tons. After returning to China, it was appointed as the flagship of the Beiyang Navy, with Liu Buchan as the captain.
