Naval Hall
The Naval Hall was built in 1887 and is currently the best-preserved military office of the Qing Dynasty in China. It covers an area of 17,000 square meters and is divided into three courtyards: front, middle and back.

The central hall of the front courtyard is the ceremonial hall, where the senior officers of the Beiyang Navy received the imperial edict and held important ceremonial activities. After the Beiyang Navy was established in 1888, Li Hongzhang, the minister of Beiyang, came to Weihai twice to review the coastal defense, and grand celebrations were held here at that time.

The east side hall of the front courtyard is the office of the Beiyang Navy Chief Inspector. In the early days of the Beiyang Navy, Colonel William Metcalfe Lang of the British Royal Navy was hired as the Chief Inspector of the Beiyang Navy to assist Admiral Ding Ruchang and be responsible for fleet management and training. Lang William's office is restored here.
The east hall of the middle courtyard is where the Beiyang Navy Admiral Ding Ruchang works. The central hall of the second courtyard is the meeting hall. The hall is restored with the scene of the military meeting held by the Beiyang Naval Hallrs above the rank of lieutenant general in 1890.

The central hall of the back courtyard is the sacrificial hall, which is an important ceremonial place for the Beiyang Navy to hold sacrificial activities. As a military force mainly engaged in maritime navigation activities, the Beiyang Navy inherited the traditional Chinese Mazu belief (Maritime Protection God).

Now we are visiting the exhibition of salvaged items from the Jiyuan ship.

The Jiyuan was an armored cruiser made in Germany. The captain was Fang Boqian. After the outbreak of the Sino-Japanese War of 1894-1895, the Jiyuan participated in the Battle of Fengdao, the Battle of the Yellow Sea, and the Battle of Weihaiwei. After being defeated in the Sino-Japanese War, it was captured by the Japanese army. In 1904, the Russo-Japanese War broke out and the ship sank after hitting a torpedo outside the Port of lvshun. After 1985, more than 300 items from the Jiyuan were salvaged. From west to east, they are: the front main anchor of the Jiyuan, the davit, the torpedo, the gun wheel, the front main gun of the Jiyuan, and the mast. These cultural relics have been severely oxidized after being taken out of the water due to being immersed in the seabed for a long time. At present, the protection of such large cultural relics is a difficult problem in China and even in the world. We are taking measures to protect them.
