Residence of Ding Ruchang
According to the Beiyang Navy Regulations, at that time only the admiral could have his own private residence on the island and could bring his family. We will now visit the residence of Admiral Ding Ruchang of the Beiyang Navy. According to records, he once lived here with his family for up to 6 years. So this place is also known as the "Xiao Ding Gong Temple"

The residence was built in 1887, covering an area of more than 14,000 square meters. It consists of three parts: the front garden, the residence and the back garden. The right courtyard is where the servants live, and the left courtyard is where his family live. The middle courtyard is a quadrangle, with a main hall, east and west wing rooms and a back hall. There is a century-old wisteria here, which was planted by Ding Ruchang himself.
After the defeat in the Sino-Japanese War, the Japanese army occupied Liugong Island and all the furnishings in the residence were looted; when Britain leased Weihaiwei, the residence served as a club for British officers and generals; after liberation, it became a barracks for the People's Navy.
