The small island in the middle of the sea on the right is called Ri Island. After the Beiyang Navy was established in 1888, the Ri Island Fort was built to strengthen the maritime defense. The Ri Island Fort cooperated with the Liugong Island and the south bank forts of Weihai Bay to form cross firepower and control the southeastern sea surface of Liugong Island.
